Welcome to Kibi’s Memory

Say NO! To Bullying and Supporting Mental Health
We are on your SIDE.

Kibi Wade (Barrett) was a beautiful young 16 year old with so much to live for
when she tragically took her life on 24th July 2024.
Struggling for years with her mental health she was subjected to relentless bullying
and online cyber bullying by her school peers.

In Kibi’s memory, our aim is that no child should suffer the way Kibi did. No family should ever have to go through the indescribable trauma we as a family are facing right now. We plan to do that through educating about the potentially fatal consequences of bullying. Our aim is to signpost those who are struggling with their mental health and being bullied to get timely help. There are organisations out there who can help with grief if you, like us have suffered the loss of a child to suicide.

About Kibi

Kibi Wade (Barrett) was only 16 years old. She was found by her elder sister, mum and stepmother hanging from the banister of the family home. Despite attempts to resuscitate her, sadly she had passed away. Her last message to her girlfriend was that she “couldn’t handle it anymore.” IT referred to the bullying and cyber bullying she was getting from her peers.

Those that bullied her should be punished for their crimes, those that failed her (school, NHS, local mental health services) should be brought to task and the Government should pass laws to make sure that bullying and cyber bullying by teenagers is made a criminal offence with severe punishment.

Mental health affects 1 in 7 teenagers yet there are little or no adequate resources to deal with it. Hopefully by telling Kibi’s story, the Government can put proper resources into treating what is an increasingly common illness.

As we struggle with grieving for the loss of our beautiful girl, we have come across organisations who can offer help so its important we share them here, should the worst thing happened and you have lost a child to suicide.

Have You Been Bullied?

If you are being bullied, you will be told not to tell anyone or there will be consequences. This is what happened to Kibi and sadly she’s no longer with us. Find someone you trust (not necessarily a teacher) and tell them or reach out to one of the Support organisations on the Support page.

We hope to provide a helpline with trained staff, but this is a long way off. In the meantime if you wish to tell us your experience to help our campaign.

The school system is broken: Why more parents are home-educating their children

Government statistics released on Thursday found that a growing number of parents have withdrawn their children from mainstream education in England. An estimated 111,700 children are being home-educated – marking a 20% rise since last year. Around 23% say their reasons for home-educating are a result of lifestyle, philosophical or preferential choices, such as religious or cultural beliefs or a rejection of an exam-based education: something that has long been the case. But 13% of families now say they made this decision because of school dissatisfaction, including a lack of support for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and school bullying. In addition, 14% say it is due to their child’s mental health

Home Educating – Is It Really A Thing?

Homeschooling statistics show a significant rise in the UK, with over 111,000 children electively educated at home in England by Autumn 2024, a nearly 20% jump from the previous year, driven largely by dissatisfaction with school (bullying, SEND needs), mental health...
